Herning is located in the center of the Jutland peninsula. It has a population of over 85,000. It is a dynamic city with a lively nightlife, but also has a natural environment for hiking, cycling and walking. Herning is close to the rivers Skjern Å and Karup Å where fishing and canoeing are abundant. The hometown of Carl Henning Pedersen (a major CoBrA artist) is also known for the work of the Italian artist, Piero Manzoni. This enfant terrible of contemporary art created the Base del mondo ( World Base ) in 1961 at the Herning Kunstmuseum. A cube of corten steel placed upside down on the floor, as a tribute to Galileo.
