Ribe is the oldest city in Denmark. The atmosphere of the medieval city center cannot be described in words. You have to experience it. The narrow, cobbled streets, the well-preserved houses and the plaques each telling a piece of the proud history that goes back to around 710 A.D. That's when the trade between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe began and Christianity spread. Ribe kept its influence until the 16th century. At that time it suffered a major fire, several floods and the silting up of its port. Today, the atmosphere is peaceful and warm.
