A few kilometers south of Târgu Neamţ, this village of almost 4,000 inhabitants is home to a monastery other than the one dedicated to the hermit Agapie: located a little higher up the hill, in the middle of the forest, it is called Schitul Agapia Veche or Agapia din Deal (Agapia on the Hill) and features a very pretty little wooden church, complete with a carved oak iconostasis. It would be a shame to visit the local monasteries without stopping off in the village of Agapia, with its beautiful traditional houses featuring wood. Most are inhabited by nuns.
