You'll be enchanted by this village of some 3,000 inhabitants, the largest in the Mara Valley. All the characteristics of a pretty Maramureş village are present: carved portals, rich craftsmanship (wood, carpets, blankets...) and a wooden church, dating from 1653. Not far away, slightly set back from the main road, the tiny hamlet of Mănăstirea gives the impression that time has stood still, with its small church overlooking the village and its orchards. The church in Mănăstirea dates back to 1633. It was abandoned in the following century, when the village was almost completely depopulated. Today, the hamlet is a magnificent haven of peace.
