The town of Fălticeni (pop. 24,000) lies 25 kilometers south of Suceava. The few monasteries in the vicinity are generally off the beaten tourist track, but are still of interest. The town itself is of little tourist interest, apart from the beautiful museum dedicated to the Romanian artist Ion Irimescu (1903-2005), one of Romania's greatest sculptors (Strada Mihai Eminescu, 2, open Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Admission €3.60, concessions €1.80). Here, in a beautiful classical manor house, you'll discover numerous sculptures and drawings. A great cultural stop-off on your Bucovina itinerary.
