Some 30km northwest of Câmpeni, this picturesque, unspoilt village of 1,700 inhabitants is built around a pretty wooden church dating from 1792. Gârda de Sus is also the main access point to the Scărișoara glacier cave, which lies at the heart of an exceptional karst complex of several hundred natural cavities. It can be reached via a small, slightly uneven but superb road, which takes you as far as the hamlet of Ghețari, or by a beautiful hike of around 10 km, also starting from Gârda de Sus (marked with a red cross).
