This town of 20,000 inhabitants was the rallying point for the various movements of 1848, opposed to the union of Transylvania with Hungary. The collections of the Blaj History Museum (strada Suciu) focus on the 1848 revolution. A little outside the center, the Liberty Plain (Câmpia Libertății) hosted two national assemblies that year. The Greek-Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Trinity can also be found on the beautiful 1848 square. Dated 1765, it was one of the country's first Baroque buildings. You can reach Blaj by train (Bucharest-Cluj line).
