This village of 5,300 inhabitants is the gateway to the Parâng Mountains, home to the country's second-highest point: the 2,519-metre Parângul Mare peak. Lakes and glacial valleys form beautiful landscapes. These can be explored on foot or by car, via the road that links Novaci to Sebeş, in Transylvania. Novaci is also a village of transhumance shepherds. A pastoral festival is held here every year in May.
