A small river port in the Middle Ages, Kladovo only became a real town in 1833, when Prince Miloš Obrenović made it the local capital. The town, with its communist architecture, is not really attractive, but it is located in the center of several interesting sites and constructions such as the Ðerdap dam, the Turkish fortress of Fetislam and the Roman sites of Diana and Pontes.
