Located about 100 km west of Kingston, Mandeville is the main city of Manchester County and the southern part of the country and has a population of about 60,000. It lies on a plateau surrounded by gentle mountains at an altitude of 610 meters. It is a quiet provincial town, far from the hustle and bustle of the coast and away from the tourist routes. The town is spread out, with residential areas made up of single-family houses rising up the hills. The downtown area is a small handkerchief, concentrated around Cecil Charlton Park, surrounded by municipal buildings and the market. To the north is the imposing Georgian-style courthouse. To the south, the parish church also dates from the 19th century; next to it, the post office and the municipal library. To the west of the park stand two theaters, the Odeon and the Tudor. Modern and well-stocked shopping centers are in the immediate vicinity. On the other hand, tourist attractions are scattered in the surrounding countryside within a radius of about ten kilometers, and the tourist will have to travel by car.
