This charming port of 6,000 inhabitants is the main town of the parish of Hanover, its main activity being the export of bananas. A wide variety of vegetables and fruits are grown in the region and exported here, such as legumes, cereals, sugar cane, cocoa, coffee... It lies in a wide natural bay protected by green hills. Two rivers, the East Lucea River and the West Lucea River, frame the bay with its calm waters in which a few fishing boats laze. Fort Charlotte was built in 1761 From its former prosperity, Lucea has kept a great charm. The main streets have an air of another time with their Georgian architecture and old wooden houses with wide galleries scalloped in a gingerbread style, in a style so typical Caribbean that the city is regularly used as a setting for filming. Aware of the value of their heritage, the inhabitants of Lucea founded the Hanover Historical Society, which aims to maintain and restore the old buildings. On Saturdays, market day, the city comes alive with fruit and vegetable stands, fish stalls, and stalls selling clothes and manufactured goods. To the west of the city lie the two beautiful beaches of Watson Taylor and Gull Bay, which are rarely visited by tourists.
