110 km from Rio de Janeiro, about 110,000 inhabitants. The main attraction of Araruama is its huge lagoon, ideal for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing.The saltwater lagoon, which covers 220 km², is very shallow, which makes its waters warm all year round. The mud on some of the lagoon's beaches is said to have medicinal properties... you have to see it! We recommend this site for a sporting weekend.Like its neighbour Saquarema, the town of Araruama itself has little of interest, but is working to develop ecotourism and rural tourism, offering visits to farms and also salt marshes.
