The name of this massif comes from some rocks whose shape reminds of church organs. It was created in 1939 to protect the exceptional landscape and biodiversity of this part of the Serra do Mar mountain range. This 20,000-hectare park, located near Teresópolis, is a biosphere reserve of the Mata Atlanticà, but it is also a place where magnificent waterfalls and the best climbing spots in Brazil are hidden. Hiking trails of all levels of difficulty cross this magnificent park. A local GR runs from Teresópolis to Petrópolis, which is more than 30 km of walking with a significant difference in altitude. For the connoisseurs, it is the most beautiful trek of the country. There are many superlatives regarding mountain sports and activities in the park. Some climbing sites are world famous. The Dedo de Deus (God's finger), is considered the first climbing site in the country, and the Agulha do Diabo (Devil's needle), is designated as one of the 15 best climbing sites in the world. Located in the Serra do Mar between 100 and 2,275 m of altitude, this park is characterized by its exceptional biodiversity, itself linked to the immense diversity of environments. According to the Chico Mendes Institute, in charge of the management of the national parks, the park is home to more than 2,800 species of plants catalogued by science, 462 species of birds, 105 species of mammals, 103 species of amphibians and 83 species of reptiles, of which 130 are endangered animals and many endemic species
