Located at the junction of the Muskrat and Ottawa Rivers, this small town is a mandatory stop on the way to Algonquin Park from Ottawa. Officially established in 1858 as the county seat of Renfrew County, it became a city in 1971. There are some nice buildings in the centre of Pembroke and almost every service you can think of. Don't miss the thirty or so murals painted throughout the town. These murals tell the story of Pembroke and are what the town is known for. If you're more of an explorer, head to Bonnechere Cave in Eganville for a memorable trip underground.
