Located between the western shore of the Ottawa River and the Petawawa River, it is the most populous municipality in Renfrew County. One of its largest employers is the Canadian government, as the town is home to the Petawawa Garrison, a Canadian Forces land base (the garrison's military museums are worth a visit). But beyond its military history, Petawawa is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts, water activities, camping and lounging on Petawawa Point Beach. For hikers, the Laurentian Mountains with their spectacular views of the Ottawa River are recommended.
