LE PALTOQUET

A small find in the Outremont district, but we have to be quick! Here, only small quantities are made and it's so good that everything disappears in the blink of an eye. First known for its pastries, the house also offers succulent pastries made with butter or almonds. The Breton chef is faithful to his origins! For lunch, nothing better than a hearty salad from the Paltoquet, a quiche lorraine or one of the famous homemade sandwiches, to be enjoyed quietly on the terrace during the summer months.

DE FROMENT ET DE SÈVE

Bakery

This bakery is a delight for residents of the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie neighborhood. On weekends, people come here to pick up the pastries that will make breakfast tastier than usual. The croissants are a must, the breads are delicious, and the tarts, quiches and other homemade pastries are also on the menu. There's also a fine selection of Quebec cheeses and pâtés, local and imported terrines and sausages, ready-to-serve dishes, etc., not forgetting the artisanal cookie factory (with a special mention for the Breton shortbread). Enjoy without moderation!

LES GIVRÉS

Glacier

Martin Maheux-Picard and Alexandre Deslauriers hold the reins of this popular artisanal dairy bar. Ice cream, sorbets, ice cakes and other delicacies are made entirely in their workshop. The original recipes have no added colourings or flavours, and absolutely everything is homemade (caramel, caramelized almonds, pistachio paste... and even the cones!). Note that many of their frozen products as well as their cookie dough are available in some fine grocery stores and restaurants in the greater Montreal area

LA BÊTE À PAIN

Bakery

A gourmet stopover as we like them! At the same time bakery, pastry shop and ready-made meals store, La Bête à pain is full of fresh and homemade products: organic breads, a nice selection of pastries and pastries (the chouquettes are particularly good), terrines, cretons, smoked salmon... What a delight! The lunch boxes including a nice sandwich, a salad, a drink and a pastry are appreciated for a comforting lunch break. We also recommend their neighborhood restaurant, Le Saint-Urbain, located a few steps away.

TROU DE BEIGNE

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

The name says it all: donuts reign supreme here! Hand-rolled, fried and glazed every morning, these little gourmet delights come in a variety of flavors, from the most classic to the most original (cookie dough, blood orange and pistachios, Nutella and banana or lime and coconut). Our vegan friends will also be happy to choose from several flavors. A second counter has opened in the trendy Central food hall in the entertainment district.

LE TOLEDO

Bakery
Open - from 07h00 to 18h00

Named after an old commercial scale found on the premises, Toledo opened its doors in 2019. The space is beautifully appointed with its large table, inviting armchairs and beautiful sprawling lamps. Bread reigns supreme here, and you absolutely must try the "killer bread" (caramelized hazelnuts, honey and olive oil). But don't overlook the succulent viennoiseries and pastries, as well as the chef's savory delights, which are also well worth sampling. Clearly a gourmet addictive address!

This artisanal bakery has not been empty since it opened in 2016. CRÈMERIE SWIRL

Glacier

When the little window on the corner of Rachel and Laval opens, it's time to order an ice cream cone. The two brothers behind this gourmet project have decided to offer a limited selection of soft ice creams made from organic, lactose-free and vegan coconut milk. The classic vanilla and chocolate flavors are still available, with two new ones appearing every two weeks. Most sorbets are made with seasonal Quebec fruit. Definitely an artisanal creamery to try in fine weather!

LES CO’PAINS D’ABORD

Bakery

This small coffee-bakery-pastry shop is a real institution. We appreciate homemade artisanal products: pastries, breads of all kinds, pizzas, quiches, pâtés, etc. Without forgetting the vast selection of pastries that will satisfy more than one, as well as Breton specialties (branch on Mont-Royal Avenue) such as kouign-amann and farz. To be enjoyed on the spot with a good coffee or to take away in its cosy nest. The house also offers seasonal sweets, at Christmas or Halloween for example.

LE GLACIER BILBOQUET

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream

A stop at this temple of homemade ice cream is a must on a stroll through the Outremont district. The cones are generous and cheap. The grapefruit, mango, pear and strawberry sorbets are exceptional. Fantasy is also on the menu with homemade cookies and ice cream cakes. The most reasonable choose frozen yoghurts. Try the daring mix of sorbet and yoghurt or the original "ice cream sandwich". Bewitching ice creams and flavours that vary with the seasons. All good stuff!

FRISQUET

Glacier

This little store's specialty? Ice cream sandwiches. And it's fair to say that they've mastered the art. Artisanal ice cream encased in two soft, homemade cookies: a delicacy that exudes North American flair. And then there are the flavors that are always on the menu, like sweet and sour (pretzel cookie, vanilla ice cream, caramel heart) or vegan blueberry chocolate. And every month, the window displays the creations of the month. For those a little wary of the decadent cookie/ice cream combo, it's possible to taste them separately.

One of the best addresses to discover the donuts, as they are called here. Josie Weitzenbauer, founder and pastry chef, makes them in all colours and with a thousand flavours: lemon-lavender, Boston cream, rose water and almonds, lime and coconut... To give free rein to her creativity, this is the challenge of this friendly company which also offers pastry workshops. For those in a hurry, assortments of six or twelve doughnuts are available to take away, in the pretty bright pink boxes in the house!

Dalla Rose welcomes visitors looking for a refreshing and gourmet break, after a stroll in the Saint-Henri district and perhaps before strolling along the Lachine Canal? The original flavors rotate very regularly, to the delight of the district's regulars.
