An industrial city nestled between the sea and the forest, Port-Cartier, named Portage-des-Mousses and then Shelter Bay, was first a logging area, then a shipping port for iron ore products from northern Quebec starting in 1957. The downtown area, made up of islands and waterfalls, can be explored along the Promenade du P'tit Quai as well as the bicycle and pedestrian network linking the archipelago. For those who would like to fish for salmon, the Taïga and Rivière-aux-Rochers parks are the ideal place, and for outdoor activities, visit the Port-Cartier-Sept-Îles wildlife reserve and the Les Goélands outdoor base.
