Yale was a lumbering center, a gold prospector's relay and a fur trading post. Until 1886, the village was the terminus of the West Coast steamship freight service. St John The Divine Church, dating from 1859, is the oldest church in the province. Its history is explained in the town's museum which displays many artifacts from the gold rush era as well as the construction of the railroad in the 19th century. A guided historical tour of the town will allow you to explore the facets of one of the most important mining towns of the time (30,000 inhabitants in 1858).
