Travel Guide Bahía Murta

This small village (550 inhabitants), founded in the 1930s, is located on an arm of Lake Carrera. This is where travellers go when Puerto Tranquilo (45 min away) is saturated with tourists in summer: wilder and quieter, Puerto Murta also allows for hiking in the surrounding area. The small village is located at the mouth of the rivers, Murta and Resbalon and Engano. The rising waters of the latter pushed the inhabitants to move in 1970: now the village is divided into two sectors, Bahia Murta and Puerto Murta. Every year in February, the Fiesta del arreo is celebrated: the way of life of the settlers and the traditions inherited from that time are honoured.
