In the heart of this sublime valley, a new private park was created in 2019, under the aegis of the Tompkins couple, who notably set up the Pumalín Park north of Chaitén. The park began to take shape in 2004, when the Tamango and Jeinimini National Reserves were connected in order to allocate more space to wildlife. The immense valleys of the park form a natural corridor once used by nomadic ethnic groups. Its forests, steppes and mountains are home to one of the richest biodiversities in Patagonia. Pumas, huemuls and other rheas have gradually regained their rights to their territory: good news for the ecological balance of the region, which has long been subject to sheep farming.
