Forty kilometers west of Bangangté, on the road to Nkongsamba and Douala, lies the Haut-Nkam town of Bafang. Bafang is the transition town between Mungo and what is known as Bamiliké country. Perched at an altitude of almost 1,100 meters, it is home to a pretty church with an imposing stone forecourt, one of the largest in Cameroon. The town's market is one of the largest in the region. Only the main street, the busiest at the end of the day, is paved; the others are dirt roads. In the vicinity of Bafang, you'll find numerous tracks and secondary roads, not always very well maintained.Although not very interesting and not one of the region's main tourist attractions, Bafang can also be the starting point for many day trips and walks in the surrounding area. To explore the surrounding countryside and its fields of palm, coffee and banana trees, a detour to the small chiefdoms of Bana (where you'll also find the Banka and Batcha waterfalls) and Fombele is a must. Or visit the village of the Bororo pastoralists. To do this, it's best to have a sturdy vehicle at your disposal, 4x4 being, as is often the case, the safest solution. Finally, Bafang is not far from Kékem, Mélong and the Ekom Nkam waterfalls, arguably the most beautiful and impressive in the country.
