On the road from Limbé to Bafoussam, after 75 km of difficult roads, you'll discover this large crossroads town on the road to Nigeria. Just 5 km north-west of the town, you can't miss Lake Barombi Mbo, a very large lake of volcanic origin and even more spectacular than Limbé. You'll need to pay an entrance fee of at least 500 FCFA to enter the site, then walk up the cliffside for a good twenty minutes before admiring the splendid view of this crater lake. Surrounded by forest, it's a veritable haven of tranquillity, with an atmosphere and calm that perfectly match the majesty of this unique landscape. The water is extremely pure, and few can resist taking a dip (although we don't recommend swimming). The crater lakes, of which there are four throughout Cameroon, are well known to biologists the world over for their variety of endemic species. Lake Barombi Mbo is also a sacred place, not only for reasons of ancestral belief, but also because it is a veritable resource that sustains the activity and life of Kumba through fishing, transport and supplying the town with clean water. On the other side of the lake is a small fishing village that can be reached by pirogue.
