At the crossroads between Yaoundé, the political capital, Douala, the economic capital, and Kribi, the seaside resort, Édéa is an industrial center and home to the country's main hydroelectric dam, earning it the nickname "Cameroon's City of Light", and an aluminum processing plant.Édéa welcomes you with a magnificent metal bridge dating back to the German era. With land dedicated to infrastructure and electricity, as well as the country's main aluminum plant, Édéa has the feel of a campus town, where the country's most qualified engineers live and work in a quiet, studious atmosphere that almost comes as a surprise when you arrive from the indomitable hustle and bustle of Douala. In this ancient colonial town, crossed by the majestic Sanaga River, a variety of attractions attract tourists, the main one being, for mangrove enthusiasts, the Douala-Édéa reserve, 1 hour's drive from the economic capital Douala. Situated in a basin, it is perhaps the hottest town in the department. It's a stopover town that nonetheless carries a lot of traffic, and you won't want to miss the famous three-way crossroads between Douala, Yaoundé and Kribi, where travellers, bundles on their backs, thumb their noses and hitchhike in each of the three directions.
