It is a former spa and astrophysics observatory in the heart of Meskhetia, at an altitude of 1,620 m in the Bordjomi-Kharagaouli National Park. It was founded in the 19th century, prized for its healthy air to treat asthma and tuberculosis. The place was extremely prestigious for the Russian Empire, and there are still many signs of this today. The health resort fell into disrepair in the 1990s and has not recovered like Bordjomi; only two of the multiple sanatoriums have reopened. Nevertheless, the old resort is located in a very green gorge, when arriving from the high plateau of Akhaltsikhe
