A ski resort 30km above Bordjomi, Bakuriani is located at an altitude of 1,700m in the Trialeti mountain range, in the heart of the Lesser Caucasus. In Soviet times, it was the only ski resort in the country and the place was very busy. It offers favourable snow conditions, generally abundant from November to March, supported by a climate of transition between humid maritime and temperate continental. Although Bakuriani was overtaken in capacity and ski area by the new resort of Goudaouri in the Greater Caucasus, it remains undeniably the more charming of the two. It is superbly situated in a natural cirque (the Bakuriani "depression"), formed by a lava flow from the Mukheri volcano. The cirque is very green, at the foot of large bumpy volcanic peaks, including Mount Kokhta (2,255 m) on which the ski area develops. A ski resort, it is also part of the forest area and is an excellent base for walks An ascent to the top of Mount Kokhta offers a beautiful view of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus Mountains. Bakuriani remains a charming village of traditional houses, decorated with wooden decorations. We are still in the Caucasus, with its unique atmosphere, made up of walking gargoyles, or pigs strolling in the streets. The villagers will be able to put their donkeys at your disposal! The success of the place makes the prices go up at all levels.
