KARVASLA CARAVANSARY
Read moreLessélidzé has several caravanserais, one of whom can hardly guess that they were. They were historically concentrated around the Sioni Cathedral. The principal is located on the right at the intersection of Lessélidzé and Sioni streets, opposite Irakli II Street. Téklés Karvasla, the caravanserai of Téklé, the former royal caravanserai, was destroyed by the Persians in 1795; It was rebuilt in a "euro-Moorish" style, orientalist and neoclassical. Left to the Soviet era and hard hit by the earthquake of 2002, it is now rehabilitated and is becoming a hotel.
There are other xixe, neoclassical and pseudo Persian caravanserais, higher on Lessélidzé, in numbers 27, 29 and 36. At 26, another synagogue in function. From here, Lessélidzé rises on Liberty square.
