Côn Dao is an archipelago of 16 islets, renowned for its magnificent sandy beaches and rich seabed, with superb coral reefs and primeval forests. A wild paradise still preserved despite growing tourism and the threat of real-estate fever. Ecologically, the archipelago has exceptional assets. It is on these beaches that some 400 turtles come to lay their eggs every year, including rare species such as the green and hawksbill turtles. The authorities have also put together an application for the archipelago to be included on UNESCO's list of natural and cultural heritage sites.
