The local legend says that " in Testour one cultivates with pride its Andalusian origins and the last bullfight took place in 1720 on the square of the Great MosqueLocated 80 kilometers west of Tunis and 40 kilometers from Beja, Testour is built on the slopes that die in the plain dug by the river Medjerda. Its original aspect is due to its Andalusian origins: it was Spanish refugees who founded the city in the 17th century, and their imprint is still very present. It is thus in a Spanish style that was built, for example, the Great Mosque which dates from the beginnings of the city (it was erected in 1609). Its minaret is also flanked by a clock that is unique in the world: its hands turn counter-clockwise and the numbers are also placed upside down, from left to right.Testour has other mosques, all decorated with motifs of admirable finesse. In the south of the city, a zaouïa, this religious establishment under the authority of a Muslim brotherhood, was built in 1733 around the tomb of Sidi Naceur el Garouachi, it is still frequented today by devotees in search of a divine favor.Testour hosts every summer a festival of maalouf, a music that mixes Arab and Spanish influences.Testour also has the largest dam in Tunisia, the Sidi Salem dam built northwest of the city on the course of the Medjerda.
