Located in the suburbs of Tunis, Gammarth, which with La Marsa formed the suburb of Megara, is today a resort appreciated by the Tunisians. It spreads out along a coastline, which many hotel infrastructures have invested, to the delight of tourists who love "all-in-one" complexes. If it is much focused on tourism, Gammarth is also a place of residence for consuls and ambassadors and houses some beautiful residences of former beys. Its spectacular contemporary mosque with a square minaret is worth a look. Nearby, on the Jebel Khaoui, there is a French military cemetery where 1,200 soldiers are buried.
