About 33 kilometres west of Debrecen, on Route. Although water is scarce on the plain, one of the most famous local views is the Pont bridge (Kilenclyukú híd), with nine arcades built between 1827 and 1833. This stone bridge thrown on low and marshy waters marks the entrance of the national park on a road that has been used since the Middle Ages for trade with Western Europe. Next to the bridge is the tourist centre of Hortobágy (some houses built along the road) and the famous old csárda. Each year, at the end of August, the traditional market of the Pont Bridge, the Hortobágyi Hídi vásár, (now a tourist fair) and the horse-riding days, with cavalcades and horse racing.
