The small town of Gyöngyös is surrounded by hillsides planted with vines. Its Franciscan church and convent library bear witness to the age of its history. The Church of St. Bartholomew (Szent Bertalan), in the central square (Fő tér), is the largest Gothic church in Hungary. It is in the small Szentkorona-ház museum that you can now admire the church's treasure, which contains sumptuous goldsmiths' items. The Baroque castle of the Órczy family houses the Regional Museum of the Mátra, to be seen.
