Esztergom is located 60 km from Budapest, at the end of the Danube bend, serving as a natural border with Slovakia (on the other side of the river). Esztergom, the former capital, is also the birthplace and coronation place of St. Stephen, the first Christian king of Hungary (baptized in 1001). This city, which holds a special place among Hungarian cities, is also the seat of the Catholic Church in the country. It is the most remote of the towns on the Danube curve and the most extensive. It offers a spectacular view of the Danube, beautiful remains of its former castle and a majestic cathedral as well as several museums.
