A peaceful city with Mediterranean climate, Baja is quoted from confluence, laid on the shady banks of the Danube and Sugovica. Their ramifications cut through many islands (the two largest are Nady-Pandúr-Sziget and Pétőfi-Sziget). The city has 38,000 inhabitants, from very diverse backgrounds (Serbs, Croats, Hungarians, Germans, Roma…), who have always cohabited in good agreement. The pride of the city is its famous fish soup, halászlé, a mixture of carp, fish-fish, perch and paprika (and some jealously guarded ingredients), close enough to a bouillabaisse. Do not miss the fish soup festival at the beginning of July (www.bajaihalfozofesztival.hu) - during this period the price of accommodation is sometimes multiplied by two. In short, Baja deserves a little gastronomic stop and more… Its baroque architecture, with its unspoiled richness, is wandering over the buildings that make the city proud, the many leisure facilities offered by its geographical location are worth staying.
