Tihany is the most picturesque place in Lake Balaton. This peninsula of volcanic origin moving far into the lake was once an island. Some beautiful ancient villas nest in the greenery of the steep slope of the hill. Tihany Bay is also the preferred place for sailing enthusiasts. Elegant hotels are hidden in the greenery; here, point of camping or family stations. The distance to the other bank is only 1,4 km, and the waltz of ferry ferries crossing the lake is permanent. On the east coast of the peninsula is a beautiful wild beach. The summit of the peninsula and village of Tihany is dominated by the magnificent baroque church of the Benedictine abbey of the th century. She seems to be looking at the few old houses, basaltic stone and thatched roofs that are grouped together. This village, now classified and protected, forms a museum in the open air (Szabadtéri Múzeum), presenting a community that seems to have been preserved as it existed once, almost a thousand years ago. The 400 hectares of Tihany Peninsula were the first protected natural reserve in Hungary (1952). From the cemetery, a small road leads to the summit of Kiserdő (the small forest). From here, we have a very beautiful view of the two lakes on the peninsula: the inner lake (Dismiss-tó, 700 m long) and the outer lake (Külső-tó). This almost intact environment, conducive to beautiful walks, has an astonishing geological formation: some 500 geysers cones formed by old hot springs (m south of inner lake), the most beautiful of them being the Aranyház (golden house).
