13 km east of Atherton, stop off at Yungaburra, a small village virtually unchanged since the early 20th century. The historic pub is well worth a visit, as is the Yungaburra Market, open on the fourth Saturday of every month from 7.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (except December:3rd Sunday). A pretty church has also been restored as a bed & breakfast (the"Church"). You'll be impressed by the majestic and imposingCurtain Fig, a tree hundreds of years old, accessible in 5 mins by car. A little further afield, head to Lake Eacham for turtle spotting, or opt for a cruise on the waters of Lake Barrine and wander through the rainforest.
