Tully, a small sugar town in North Queensland, owes its name to the river that runs through it. The town holds the record for rainfall, with 4.27 meters (4270 mm) of precipitation per year. The record was set in 1950, when 7.9 meters (7900 mm) of rain fell on the city. Famous for its sugar cane plantations (over 22,000 hectares of sugar cane) and banana cultivation, it's the perfect place for backpackers in search of fruitpicking. The harvest season generally runs from June to mid-November. The rainy weather provides ideal conditions for sport rafting. The Tully River offers excellent rapids, from level 3 to 4.
