In the heart of a volcanic landscape, the green Eressos, with its red-roofed houses, offers a happy contrast. Home of Sappho and philosopher Theophrastos, the city attracts groups of lesbians and neo-hippies on pilgrimage. A small archaeological museum displays a rather interesting collection of funerary stelae and Hellenistic vases. You will also find two basilicas, Aghios Dimitrios and Aghios Andrea, from the 5th and 6th centuries.
