Veria is a small town of Macedonia finally still rather ignored. It is the closest city to the site of Vergina (13 km), where is in particular the tomb of Philip II of Macedonia. The Roman and then Byzantine periods turned it into a small Jerusalem with 48 Byzantine churches where a large Jewish community resisted the many waves of occupation.
