This 413 km2 national park is located between the sharp peaks of the Kipengere, Poroto and Livingstone mountains in the extreme south of the country. The well-watered volcanic soil of the Kitulo Highlands supports Tanzania's largest and most important grassland. The national park emerges at an altitude of 2,600 metres on a high volcanic plateau. A vast grassy expanse, dotted with abundant and even spectacular flora. It is best to visit from November to May, during the rainy season, when the flowers are at their most beautiful. The floral wealth of this park is incredible: nearly 350 species (including 45 orchids) which attracts many botanists. Kitulo Plateau is also the refuge of several species: butterflies, chameleons, lizards and frogs. There are about ten access roads to be done on foot or by bike.
