On the border with Latvia, Valga is the twin town of Valka, the Latvian side. In the city, do not miss to observe the city hall, a large red and white building, which was built in 1865 and is one of the most beautiful examples of wood architecture in the region and the German bank building which is now the centre of the Government of the County of Valga. This building, located Kesk 12, with ionic order columns combines neoclassical architecture with Art nouveau decoration. Not far from there is the church Saint-Jean which has very good acoustics and inside which is a body built by Ladegast. On the other side, at the end of the street, you will not be able to miss the huge bust that proudly rises. It is the memorial to Alfred Neuland, the first Estonian Olympic champion at the 1920 Games in Antwerp.
