The town of Madjarovo, a former mining town, is located along the Arda River, in a beautiful natural setting rich in diverse flora and fauna, including rare turtles, volcanic cliff birds and endemic plants. The area has been classified as a nature reserve. One will see rocks with extraordinary shapes, one of the largest Thracian sanctuaries (the cromlech), a large museum of Ethnography on the region and a bird watching center. The Arda River flows through gorges which are the object of beautiful hikes. Bicycle and boat rental at the Eastern Rhodope Nature Conservation and Information Center.
