A few kilometers from Greece, isolated at the eastern end of the Rhodope Mountains, Ivailovgrad is not strictly speaking a tourist destination, but some hikers pass by to catch a bus. We discover a superb Roman villa, 4 km from the center, the villa Armira. This first century residence, unearthed in 1994 in a fairly good state of preservation, is the main attraction of Ivailovgrad. One can admire there the greatest quantity of mosaic ever found on an archaeological site in Bulgaria. The symbol of the Gorgon is often represented on it, as in red thread of the decoration of the villa.
