This small mountain town and ski resort perched at an altitude of 1,140 m is crossed by the river Chaya. It is located on the Plovdiv-Smolyan road after the Rojen pass, 9 km from the resort of Pamporovo. Surrounded by forests, near beautiful natural sites, it is famous for its ski slopes in winter and hiking trails in summer. Its name comes from tchepeli which means "cold and stormy". Today it is one of the cultural and administrative centers of the Rhodopes. Its main street is lined with beautiful buildings.
