People come here to take the waters in the forest, in luxury establishments. Velingrad has an ideal climate, with high hydrometry and clean air. It is the largest spa in the country with 80 springs. Near the Chepino springs is Saint Pass, whose waters are said to have protective powers. Pilgrims come here in the hope of healing. Velingrad is also a good base for exploring the Rhodopes. The surrounding landscapes are beautiful. In 1948, the three villages of Kamenitsa, Ladjene and Chepino were united under this name in honor of the local heroine Vela Peeva.
