Last Bulgarian town on the Danube, on the Romanian border. It is there that Flavius Aetius was born, who fought the chief of the Huns, Attila. We will come here to explore the ecosystems of the Danube, including the Srebarna nature reserve. Some monuments can be visited in the surrounding area: the fortifications of Silistra, formerly called Durostorum (solid fortress), have long been a battlefield between civilizations; the ancient fortification Madjoditabia, built on a hill, houses an exhibition of ancient objects; and a 4th century tomb with beautiful murals. The port city is known for its production of apricot liqueur.
