The shores of Lake Snagov, a large village of some 8,000 inhabitants, are an oasis of nature and a vast recreational area for residents of the capital, 40 km away. At weekends, Bucharest residents flock to the long, winding lake to picnic among the trees. Many water sports and other activities are available. Of course, it's also a popular spot for anglers. Snagov is also famous for its monastery, located on an island to the north of the lake.
