North-west of Hengchun, on route 199 which links the south of the island to the east coast (through the mountains), the village of Sichongxi is known for its hot springs. Charged with sodium carbonate, they were among the three most popular during the Japanese occupation along with Peitou and Kuantzuling. Many hotels and resorts allow you to enjoy the thermal baths at low prices. It can also be a good starting point for a walk. The Haikou sand dunes are about 3 kilometers west on the coast. Continuing northwards, it is also possible to reach the village of Mudan, lost in the middle of the mountains and known to be home to one of the largest dam lakes on the island.
