Away from the busy tourist areas, Nan is a must for those wishing to discover the surrounding parks. A small town of around 25,000 inhabitants, it is home to numerous ethnic minorities: Thai-Lü, Khamu, Hmong, Marabaree... It retains a rare authenticity and calm. Although Nan has no extraordinary monuments, apart from a few interesting temples, the surrounding nature - mountains, valleys and forests - is quite splendid. It's the gateway to Pua and Sapan, and the roads leading to these villages are breathtakingly beautiful. The region's charm is both original and cosmopolitan.
