Corrientes (about 353,000 inhabitants) is the capital of the province of the same name, but also the oldest city in the Argentine Northeast, founded on April 13, 1588 by Juan Torres de Vera y Aragón. It is a pleasant city where the weather is good all year round. It has beautiful landscapes and beaches on the Parana River. An exceptional time to go there is during Carnival. It is here that the most important festivities of the country take place. The city has been nicknamed "National Carnival Capital". There are several tourist points throughout the city, including the bus station and near Plaza San Martin.
