Kawit, population 110,000, is located in the province of Cavite, on the peninsula in Manila Bay, southwest of Manila. The city has great historical significance as it was the birthplace of the national hero, Emilio Aguinaldo. More importantly, it was here that the same Aguinaldo declared the independence of the Philippines on June 12, 1898.
